Methodist Statement

The original Methodist mission statement of John and Charles Wesley
in 18th century England was:
"To reform the nation and ... spread scriptural holiness over the land."

The mission of the global United Methodist church has always been
to foster "personal holiness and social responsibility."

Our faith is always a deeply personal experience impacting us
in variety of ways, and yet that faith, when authentic, moves us
beyond ourselves, out into the world to make a positive difference.

Who are we?

A Wesleyan faith community doing justice,
 loving kindness,
and walking humbly with God.

Why are we here?

To become deeply committed followers and disciples of Jesus,
knowing, loving and serving God.

Where are we going?

Reaching heaven, changing earth
in near and far away places,
one person, one relationship at a time,
with our hearts, our hands and our minds.

That's the spirit that gave birth to SPCUMC 143 years ago.
It's who we are as Christians. It's what we do as a faith community

Whenever we are lost and confused, we remember our calling,
our personal hopes, and our dreams
for the world's future, waiting to be discovered....

Touching heaven, though planted here on Earth,
we are about the transforming work in the lives and the world around us,
 one relationship at a time
.

May the grace of God continue to surround and encourage us all.
